PURCHASE WITH PURPOSE

The Art of Giving Forward.

Creative Heritage continues a principle that began long before Creative Heritage had a name: create something of value, allow someone else to receive that value, and use what comes from the exchange to create opportunity for someone else.

THE ORIGIN

Art became a means to sustain the work.

Steven Johnson Sr. was an educator, artist, and mentor in Philadelphia who understood that creativity could become more than expression. It could become a resource.

As he worked to support his family and sustain the arts programming he believed young people in his community needed, he often relied upon what he could create with his own hands.

He painted. He sold his artwork. And the resources created through those exchanges helped him continue supporting both his family and the programs he had built.

Create something of value.
Allow someone else to receive that value.
Use what comes from the exchange to create opportunity for someone else.

THE EXCHANGE

Everyone received something.

The person purchasing Steven Johnson Sr.'s work received something tangible — an original piece of art carrying value and meaning of its own.

Steven received resources that allowed him to continue creating, supporting his family, and investing in his educational work.

His programs received support. And another young person could receive access to art, culture, mentorship, and possibility.

It was a cycle of creating, exchanging, and reinvesting.

THE MODEL TODAY

Every purchase helps continue the exchange.

Today, the medium may be different. A painting may become a garment. A canvas may become a design. Creative expression may take the form of clothing, objects, collaborations, or other works created through Creative Heritage.

The principle remains the same.

100% of proceeds from Creative Heritage purchases are directed to the Psalm 133 Foundation to support programming and services benefiting low-income and underserved communities, with particular attention to opportunities for youth and families.

THE CONTINUATION

The principle did not end with one generation.

Creative Heritage is not simply an effort to preserve the memory of Steven Johnson Sr. It is an effort to practice what his life taught.

His son and grandchildren saw an opportunity to carry forward a model in which creativity could generate resources, resources could support programming, and programming could create opportunity for others.

Through the partnership with the Psalm 133 Foundation, Creative Heritage carries that exchange forward — using what we create today to help support what can be created in the lives of others tomorrow.

THE ART OF GIVING FORWARD

The heritage is not merely what was left to us.

The heritage is what we choose to do with what was left to us.
